We plan to go see Niles' daughter and husband (whom we've never met; they've been married 3 years; guess it's about time, huh!!) in Florida as soon as school is out, June 8-19. We'll drive and come back thru Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN. I've been exploring some possibilities on the internet; it looks like an interesting place to visit. We plan to go to Dollywood, see some shows and go outlet mall shopping, as well as do a bunch of sightseeing, all in 4 days. HA!
Niles' also has 4 grown children that live in Denver, 7 grandkids, ages 2-16, so we usually try to go up there sometime during the summer, usually during late July and early August when it's soooo hot here in OK. We have some friends that spend 3 months in Buena Vista, CO (about 8,000 ft.) that we might spend some time with again this summer. We spent a week up there last summer, but ended up with his kids/grandkids there most of the time, so it ended up being go, go, go and we didn't get much rest or get to spend much time with our friends. Hopefully, we'll get to spend a little more "rest" time this summer.
Our daughter, Susie, is graduating from college (Southern Nazarene University, my alma mater--ha) this spring, or so she says. HA! She's never been one to "do things ahead of time" so this semester, her last, she is doing an internship with Big Brother/Big Sister, working 20+ hours a week as a teller at First Fidelity Bank and going to school full-time. Her major is Human Relations which she says if 1/3 sociology, 1/3 psychology, and 1/3 speech communication. I guess she will somehow be in the "people business" when she graduates.
My Dad will be 85 on Feb. 7, but is doing well. He still lives on the farm north of Weatherford. My Mother passed away in September 2001, just from old age, I guess. My Dad has a lady friend in Hydro who he does things with and also has a lady friend in Iowa where my aunt lives (his sister). He drives to Iowa twice a year to see his sister and husband (and to see this lady, ha!) and sometimes goes to Texas to spend a couple of weeks with them (his sister & brother-in-law). They winter in south Texas where it's in the 70's all winter. He comes to the city quite often just for different things. He hauls clothes to OKC to the rag shop that the ETC. shop (used clothing and stuff store in Weatherford run by several Mennonite churches) can't use or sell about twice a month.
I'm still teaching elementary PE. I'm in my 29th year, grades 1 thru 5 and I coach the track teams in the spring (4th and 5th boys and girls). Niles takes care of our rental property and has a couple of businesses on the side. He will be 63 in May, so I plan to teach 2 more years, until he's 65, then retire. Hopefully, we'll have our "ducks in a row" by then, so I can (currently we have two houses unrented, NOT a good thing, HA!). If I were to retire now, my pay would be cut in half; mainly because your salary goes down and health insurance goes up when you retire. I'm also working two evenings a week at the Family Life Center at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene (8 hr. a week). It's a little extra "vacation" money and I really enjoy the change of pace it provides. I work the front desk, which means you “meet and greet,” check out equipment, and generally "watch" the place. We are a full fitness facility, with two basketball courts side by side, a work out/weight room, exercise room, a walking track, a couple of classrooms, computer room, and a game room (ping pong, pool, foosball, video games, etc). We're still members of BFC, but we've been attending Mustang Assembly of God church in Mustang, OK for a little over a year. It's certainly different than Mennonite and Nazarene, but the pastor has such a passion for the lost and for life, even though he's been pastor there for 27 years. It's been hard to change churches after 32 yrs., but it's probably been good for me. We're making new friends---and they are praying people. They pray BELIEVING God will change your situation, heal you, or that whatever you've prayed for WILL HAPPEN. That has been an inspiration to us.
Well, I've caught you up on my life, now I'll be waiting to hear from you. We don't have a digital camera, so I'll try to borrow one from school and get a couple of "shots" of us for you.
