One of the highlights this past year was the Corn and CBA 100th Celebration where I relived memories and saw many of you! CBA left an indelible and lasting impression on me: wearing slacks under my dress in Study Hall-to meet and defy regulations, bouncing super balls down the halls---then hiding in the Prayer Closet, sun tanning on the roof of the dorm---and ruffling up the town folks, playing chase in cars and motorcycles (lights off) through Corn-and disturbing the town folks, choir trips, roller skating, and watching the school burn.
After CBA, I stopped for a year at Tabor, then eventually graduated with an English Education degree from Colorado State University. After 15 more years of taking classes and changing majors, I obtained my master's degrees in counseling from Denver Seminary. The degree has served me for leading workshops and retreats, and teaching classes at Denver Seminary and community colleges in both Colorado and Alaska.
What means most to me are my writing credits. Prescription for Adventure: Bush Pilot Doctor, contains stories of my father's medical, flying, and hunting emergencies and adventures. Memories and Meals includes the history and recipes of Deer Creek Christian Camp; The Three Boy, is a collection of humorous family stories. Come Let us Stand United, Part II, the last 25 years of CBA history, was an
intriguing editing project. In addition to these accomplishments are numerous articles, the most recently published, "Left Behind: A Journey Through Grief," in THE CHRISTIAN LEADER. I'm hoping that "'A' is for Anna, Anaktuvak, Alaska" will become a reality.
Besides all the above, I am on the Homeowner's Association Board. Currently, we are dealing with the drought issues and pursuing adjudication for our wells. A position that challenges me is that of Program Chair on the Christian Ministries Convention. I am responsible to see that over 200 workshops are lined up for the annual convention here in Denver.
Although I live on 5 acres in Parker, Colorado (east side of Denver), I regularly return to my family homestead on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. There, I share responsibilities with my siblings for maintaining the homestead. We interview loggers to take out the beetle-kill trees, put up fence to fend off trespassers, rent various dwellings, burn brush, and repair every roof, septic, well that is falling apart!
Both my children, Nicole (married to Mike Clark) and Aaron, also live in Parker. Together we enjoy skiing, hiking, the Colorado MCC sale, and traveling. For other fun, I roller blade, take daily walks with Copperfield (my Golden oldie), attend Pilates exercise class, and collecting words.
