After high school, I attended West Ark College for two years. While in school, I modeled for the Arcade, Rockwood shop and Hunts. I was a contestant in the Miss Fort Smith and Miss Arkansas Valley pageants.
I married a classmate, John Bennett, in 1960. We lived in Dallas, Texas for a short time and came back to Fort Smith. John started working for the Caterpillar tractor dealership’s branch office in Fort Smith. We have two daughters, Terri and Kristi. Terri is married to Duff Wallace and they have one child. Our grandson’s name is Spencer. Kristi is not married. All of our children live in Little Rock.
John was transferred to Texarkana, Arkansas in 1967 and a year later was transferred to the main store in Little Rock. We have been in this area since that time.
I had the good fortune to stay at home with my children and work in the school system. I did some sub teaching, a Girl Scout leader for eight years, health department and for many years served as homeroom mother.
My favorite sports are water skiing, boating, camping and traveling. I also bowled on a league for 25 years.
John was a District Governor of Rotary International and we traveled to all of his clubs that he represented in Arkansas. We also traveled to International Conventions in Germany and Austria.
We like to travel in our Motor home (R.V.). We have traveled extensively in the United States, Hawaii, Mexico, Nova Scotia and Canada. We joined the Arkansas Razorback Roadhogs, an organization of The Razorback Foundation. We have a space in the Roadhog R.V. Park at Fayetteville and travel to the away games as well.
We belong to the Arkansas Travelers Antique Auto Club in Little Rock and the Dixie Car Club of Benton. John restores antique cars and we love to drive and show them. His latest endeavor was to restore a 1957 Ford convertible. It is exact replica of the car that we had when we got married. It looks and drives like a new car. Every thing is original on the car except for the eight-disk CD changer that, you guessed it, plays all of the rock and roll tunes that we grew up with.
I have always enjoyed art, painting drafting and design. My greatest achievement was drafting and drawing our present home on a lake. I even did all of the contracting. We have been here in Benton (suburb of Little Rock) for seventeen years.
Since John retired two years ago, we are traveling and just enjoying life.
